Milan - Part 1

So...Milan. Today it was everything I thought it would be. Yesterday, well...it had to grow on me. There is a trend here people...the travel days are my least favorite days...I am nervous about getting there, making sure we know where to go, etc. I know I need to get over it by now...its been 5 cities already.

We left Bologna around 10:00. Arrived into Milan's main train station which is huge. Took a subway to our hotel which is way out of the city central. However, I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else...see pics below! Its like we have our own loft! Its fabulous

After getting situated into our room. We decided to head back into town and grab lunch. It was hard to find lunch anywhere at 3:00. They have the funniest schedules over here. From 2:30-3:00...NOTHING is open. It's like they don't want to make money or something for part of the day. :)

We went and saw the Duomo...it is amazing (see pictures). We saw the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele which is amazing...and noticed a McDonalds in the center of it (right next to Louis and Prada). I know what you are thinking, "What are they thinking...you are in Italy?". Honestly, we weren't thinking, we were hungry...it was a beautiful place we were standing in, and they have the nicest McDonalds here. It ended up being the best people watching place. After that we went to La Scala Opera House and bought tickets to the museum. What an impressive place. It has 6 balconies!!!

We then shopped the Rodeo Drive of Milan. By shop, I mean window shop and people shop. Only the best in Milan :)

Today:

We had a wonderful breakfast at our place. It feels like we are living in a loft. I love it. The lady that owns the place, Mia, is an architect. She is great. We took our time this morning and just enjoyed our time at our bed and breakfast. Took the subway to an area called the Brera district. Shopped at some amazing places. There was this one store we had heard a lot about called "10 corso como". It was such an amazing store. From there we shopped around in the Brera district. Had lunch in the Brera at a mom and pop osteria (cafe). Did some more walking and landed at the Fazioli piano showroom. Lets just say they were quite impressed with Christopher's talent. We told them we were headed to Venice soon and that we were touring the Fazioli piano factory there. :)

From there, we went to the Diesel store where Christopher picked up an early birthday present (P.S. Christopher's 31st birthday is tomorrow!) He loves him some Diesel jeans...and since Italy is home to Diesel...what better thing to get for his birthday.

Milan has been great today. It reminds me a lot of New York. Rick Steves in our tour book says that "for every church they have in Rome, there is a bank in Milan". It is quite the business capitol of Italy.

Until tomorrow...where we will follow Christopher around on his birthday doing whatever he wants us to do...

Here are some pics from the last two days!

The Duomo. This will take your breath away!

It is amazing! We arrived on a special holiday to Milan, Liberation Day. It seemed to be a big Italian protest out front of the Duomo.
The re-construction of the Duomo has promotions for stores...interesting where everyone's priorities are here.
