Rome/Assisi/Florence - Day 6-8

I cannot believe it was Saturday night the last time I posted. A lot has happened in 3 days. Unfortunately I do not have a lot of time to go into detail from the past two days (Don't worry I am posting lots of photos to this blog).  Here is a quick run down

Sunday
  • We started the day in Rome. Walked through a terrible flea market in Trastevere that I was hoping I guess hung the moon...it didn't hang anything. It was pretty bad.
  • Walked through the special places/spaces in Rome one more time
  • Packed up and went to the train station at noon to catch our train to Assisi
  • Arrived in Assisi around 4:00pm. Walked around Santa Maria Angeli and was part of a church service at the same time.
  • Checked into our agriturismo (farm house like a "hotel")
  • Had dinner at a great restaurant
  • Toured the streets of Assisi. I cannot explain to you how beautiful, charming, and special this place was to us. It was magical. We fell in love with it. If by chance we win millions of dollars, you will know where to find us.
  • The con of Assisi is that it is a mountain and I do not mean a hill...I mean a mountain.
Monday
  • Our non-English speaking host from the agriturismo provided us with a fabulous cappuccino and sweet treats for breakfast
  • Hit the mountain for some site seeing
  • We visited all of the St. Francis places that we have been reading about in Chasing Francis. It was surreal.
  • We met a wonderful art shop owner that sells his brother's paintings of special places in Assisi. He was awesome and had very good English. We definitely have a friend in Assisi now! :)
  • We took a hike up the mountain where Francis would go to pray to a place called Eremo Delle Carceri (The Hermitage). It is now a convent for nuns and it was so beautiful. It was a hard up hill hike to get there. 1 hour each way.
  • Did some shopping in the "old town" of Assisi and called it an early night after that.
Tuesday
  • We started our day in Assisi. Ended in Florence
  • This morning we went to the Papal Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi
  • Caught a train to Florence
  • Arrived at the Florence train station.
  • What a city...I will post more about Florence over the next 5 days.
  • We took a walking tour of Florence today and it was great.
  • Had some gelato and pizza
  • Got to our Tuscan villa that is amazing!
  • Good day!

Thanks for following along in our journey. We wish you all could have been there with us to translate...life would have been perfect! :)
